The Second Death of Gaara; Accident, or Betrayal?
Shio towered over the now-pinned Akasuna. "It was my first S-Rank mission as a member of the Leaf's Anbu Black Ops. My squad was assigned to accompany Naruto-Sama and Gaara-Sama with his own Anbu team. There were ten of us in all. The mission was to...Apprehend Sasuke Uchiha.
**Flashback**
Shio was beside Naruto, headed for the rendezvous point when she spoke to him. "Naruto-Sama?"
"Yes?" Naruto only turned his eyes toward her. "Well...It's about the mission. This Sasuke guy...I've heard a bit about him, are you sure we'll be able to take him peacefully? And if a fight does break out, I'm just worried about how myself and the others will affect you and Lord Gaara.We're not as powerful and might get in your way."
"You'll be fine Shio. I believe in you, now let's keep moving." Naruto told her. "After all, if I didn't think you could handle this, I wouldn't have picked you." He added a moment later.
"Yes?" Naruto only turned his eyes toward her. "Well...It's about the mission. This Sasuke guy...I've heard a bit about him, are you sure we'll be able to take him peacefully? And if a fight does break out, I'm just worried about how myself and the others will affect you and Lord Gaara.We're not as powerful and might get in your way."
"You'll be fine Shio. I believe in you, now let's keep moving." Naruto told her. "After all, if I didn't think you could handle this, I wouldn't have picked you." He added a moment later.
***Present***
Akasuna didn't care about her story, he was desparately looking for a way out of his condition, but her lightning chakra had him paralyzed. "Would you stop squirming and pay attention? If you don't, you'll continue to mark the wrong targets all your life and it's only going to lead you down a road that ends with an untimely death." He stopped moving and looked at her, "What do you mean?" he called. "Oh, now I've got your attention. Anyway, when we met up with Gaara-Sama, he and Naruto exchanged intel on Sasuke's last known whereabouts."
**Flashback**
"Gaara, you're sure he's there?" Naruto asked. "Yes, my scouts have been tracking him for several days now. They're very good at what they do."
"Alright, then let's go, and you know the drill, I'll confront him first." Naruto said.
Minutes later they reached the location, and sure enough, there was Sasuke, old and wrinkled, but still powerful. Naruto and the others hid, but he'd already noticed their presence. "Come out." He said stoically. So Naruto stepped out from behind a tree. "Sasuke." he said.
"Naruto..." Sasuke then activated his basic Sharingan and gave a threatening look to the Hokage. "Why are you so close to the Leaf Village Sasuke?" Naruto asked him. "You really are an idiot if you have to ask." He replied. Just as Naruto predicted, he was here to destroy the village.
"Sasuke Uchiha. I am afraid such things will not be happening today."
"So you're here too...Gaara."
"I suggest you reconsider your actions here today, Sasuke. Your eyes have still not changed since the last time we met. They still bare that despair and loneliness that you refuse to let go of." Gaara said.
"Gaara. I told you before. Back at the summit, my hatred, my loneliness, my despair... THEY SURPASS YOURS!!" The Uchiha screamed.
"Sasuke, your hatred and despair are self-inflicted wounds that you hope to force upon the people of this village. And that cannot be allowed to go unpunished. I wish not to harm you. Submit without resistance." Gaara ordered him.
"Self-inflicted? Do you have any idea what it's like to grow up with your parents? You don't. You were made an assassination target by your own father. And your mother died after giving birth to you. So what would you two know about the loneliness I BARE? YOU TWO, WHO HAVE BEEN ALONE FROM THE START!! YOU COLDN'T POSSIBLE UNDERSTAND ME!!" Sasuke slammed his hand on the ground, and a surge of lightning started to make its way toward Naruto and Gaara.
"GAARA!" Naruto called.
"Right!"
Together they made a sign, "WIND STYLE: DEVASTATION SQUARED!" they called. Both men used their chakra to release a humongous gale of wind that headed straight for Sasuke. He leaped into the air and dodged it. Before Sasuke could draw his sword, Naruto was in the air, fighting him with taijutsu. Then Gaara grabbed both of them in his Sand Prison, and he let Naruto out. Unfortunately, Sasuke used that to create his own escape route, and blasted out lightning chakra all around him. He dispelled the Sand Prison,
"SASUKE LISTEN TO US! THE ELDERS WHO WRONGED ITACHI ARE LONG SINCE DEAD!! There is no reason for you to attack the Leaf or even wish for it to be destroyed anymore. Just come back to us!" Naruto punched him in the face then, "There's no point in trying to get revenge anymore."
"After all these years, Naruto, you still don't get it."
"You're wrong, Sasuke Uchiha. There is nobody who understands you better than Naruto does. He understands your story, and why Itachi did what he did." Gaara said.
"Don't you dare...Speak of Itachi."
Sasuke activated his Susano'o after that, and Naruto responded by activating his Kyuubi Mode. Gaara and the Anbu from both villages were providing him with offensive support as he and Sasuke clashed.
"Alright, then let's go, and you know the drill, I'll confront him first." Naruto said.

"After all these years, Naruto, you still don't get it."
"You're wrong, Sasuke Uchiha. There is nobody who understands you better than Naruto does. He understands your story, and why Itachi did what he did." Gaara said.
"Don't you dare...Speak of Itachi."

"So what!? I already knew the outcome of that mission! It is poitnless to tell me this story!" Akasuna yelled.
Shio had had enough of him interrupting her. She made a clone, and they both charged one leg with electricity. "Shut," they wound up and then kicked him in the sides! "UP!!" She yelled. He let out a pain-filled noise, hardly human, then Shio continued. "Anyway. The battle...was intense. Most of the Anbu from both units died in it, killed by Sasuke. I was the only one who made it out of his attacks due to my Sharingan reading his abilities. Then Sasuke surrounded us with a Yasaka Magatama. That's where it got really bad."

Naruto Teleported around the projectiles, and then he saw them headed for Shio, she had nowhere to go. He teleported to her and got her out of there. Then he made eye contact with Gaara, but it wouldn't mean much. Sasuke generated an Inferno Style: Yasaka Magatama! It was flying straight at Naruto and Shio, meanwhile he was creating his Flame Control Sword. A sword made entirely of Amaterasu flames. Gaara knew what Naruto was about to try, but there wasn't time for that, because Kurama's chakra had just run out. They were both stuck, unable to move away in time.
"NARUTO UZUMAKI!!" Gaara screamed. Sasuke lifted the sword, and sand was starting to form around Naruto and Shio. Gaara lifted his arm up toward Naruto, "I consider you to be my closest friend." He said to him. "Gaara, what are you-" Gaara shed a tear, "Good-bye, my friend. SAND PRISON!!"
The sand around Naruto and Shio's ankles started to rise and harden into a rock-solid sphere. "What!? NO! GGAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!" Naruto screamed. He started pounding on the wall, then he heard the explosions and the crash.
"NARUTO UZUMAKI!!" Gaara screamed. Sasuke lifted the sword, and sand was starting to form around Naruto and Shio. Gaara lifted his arm up toward Naruto, "I consider you to be my closest friend." He said to him. "Gaara, what are you-" Gaara shed a tear, "Good-bye, my friend. SAND PRISON!!"
The sand around Naruto and Shio's ankles started to rise and harden into a rock-solid sphere. "What!? NO! GGAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!" Naruto screamed. He started pounding on the wall, then he heard the explosions and the crash.
***Present***
"What happened next was awful. Gaara-Sama had been killed, turned into ashes by Sasuke's Flame Control Sword. Naruto went ballistic. He killed Sasuke, the man who he considered his best friend, on the spot. And it was...brutal."
Just then, Choji and Ino arrived. "Hey Ino, I'm fine, but see to his legs. Choji, when I remove my swords I need you to hold him down. The charge from my jutsu should still be in effect. And as for you Akasuna." Shio deactivated her Sharingan and gave him a cold stare, "I'm letting you go as long as you swear not to come after us again." Shio said, "Yeah...NO!" He said.
Then, out of nowhere a sand clone appeared and knocked out all three shinobi. "At least I didn't have to deal with those two." He said, then Akasuna turned his body into sand and flew off in the wind.

Taiew had gotten to the mountainside border between the Land of Fire and the Rain Country. He was on the closer of the two mountains to the border. He took a step, when he heard his name being called out by Liaf. Taiew ignored it and kept walking. "ARE YOU JUST GOING TO RUN FROM ME YOU COWARD!?"
